Hello! I’m Racquel P. Henry — a freelance photographer, creative, and proud mother of three.
After spending 12 years in the healthcare industry, I made a bold leap into my first love: photography. While my career changed, my passion for photography began much earlier.
At five years old, my father brought home a Nikon camera. Growing up in Jamaica, owning a camera wasn’t something many families had, and the lack of family photographs left a lasting impression on me. That experience sparked a lifelong desire to preserve memories and ensure meaningful stories would never go untold.
Throughout my school years, I was known as the girl who always had a camera in her hand. Photography has never been just a hobby—it has always been my way of preserving emotion, celebrating connection, and telling stories that last for generations.
My Jamaican heritage, Christian faith, and family values are woven into everything I create. They shape how I see people and how I serve them. I believe photography is about more than beautiful images—it’s about honoring people, preserving legacy, and capturing moments with intention, authenticity, and heart.
Although photography had always been part of my life, I wanted to strengthen the technical side of my craft. I returned to school and completed the Digital Photography Certificate Program at the F.I.R.S.T. Institute (Florida Institute of Recording, Sound and Technology). That experience gave me the confidence and professional foundation to turn a lifelong passion into Purple Hibiscus Photography.
One of the most meaningful milestones in my journey has been being accepted into Black Women Photographers (BWP). Joining this global community of talented Black women photographers has been both an honor and an encouragement to continue learning, growing, and telling stories that matter.
The name Purple Hibiscus Photography reflects two things that have always inspired me: the color purple and the hibiscus flower. Together, they represent creativity, strength, beauty, and grace—the same values I strive to bring to every client experience. At the heart of my brand is a simple belief: Faith guides my purpose. Heritage shapes my perspective. Photography tells the story.
Today, I specialize in Student & Academic Life, events, and portraits, while my love for documentary photography influences the way I approach every story. My goal is to create timeless, natural, and soulful images that preserve life’s most meaningful moments.
I am in a beautiful season of embracing growth, following God’s direction, and pursuing the dream that has lived in my heart since childhood. My hope is that years from now, when you look back at your photographs, you won’t just remember what happened—you’ll remember how it felt.
Thank you for allowing me to be part of your story.
Making Memories Last Forever. 💜🌺📸
